According to the latest official estimates about 269.1 million people in India are poor, one fifth of them living in urban areas while rest of them living in rural India.
The poverty is higher among the three priority groups (Muslims, Dalits and Tribals) identified by the Islamic Relief India. Most of the poor and marginalized in rural areas comprise of landless agricultural workers and small and marginal farmers. Livelihood support is vital for these communities; as this will help them provide life with dignity as well as integrated development sustainability.
