Agricultural land is landlocked Malawi’s major natural resource. Most people rely on subsistence farming, but rapid population growth is placing severe strain upon the land.
Rural communities in the south are among the most food insecure in the country. About half of all children have stunted growth due to poor nutrition, and the overwhelming majority do not complete primary schooling.
The southern African country has high rates of child and adult mortality, and a high prevalence of diseases such as HIV and AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis.
In 2006, Islamic Relief established an office in Malawi.
Our projects in the country include providing poor people with secure livelihoods, increasing community resilience to natural disasters, and tackling food insecurity by supporting local communities.We also distribute Ramadan and Qurbani food parcels to vulnerable families.
